The Annan River can, during sustained rainfall, turn into a raging watercourse that powers through the narrow gorge in a deafening roar.
The Annan flows very strong during the summer months and by spring it has backed off to a slower pace. The river feeds Cooktown with its water supply and eventually ends in a large, sandy river mouth that is accessable by 4WD for the ultimate in beach and estuary fishing.
As per our guests requests we don't give too much away about this spot.
Too good to make public the location unless you ask when you are here.
From a distance they appear small and black. They are really quite large and covered in a moss which is dark and absorbs light in a way giving the eerie look from afar. Located 30km south of town it should be a must see during your visit.
Located on the north branch of the Endeavour river these falls can be found 32 kilometres north west of Cooktown on the way to Battle Camp Rd and Hopevale. As this is private property please stop at the roadhouse first before entering.
Sometimes when there is too much rain the runoff can flood. Seen here is the Endeavour River at the highest it can go before it becomes unpassable.
Heading further north west towards Laura along Battle Camp Road you will find these falls.
A short drive from Cooktown you can visit this amazing bird sanctuary featured by a large lagoon. There is a 1.5k boardwalk for nature lovers to stroll and observe the surroundings. Creating these facilities were helped by the local Gungarde Aboriginal Corporation
