Myth
Cooktown does
not shut or close down during the wet season.
Most of the
photos taken on this website were taken during the 'Wet Season'.
Generally you
will find the weather in Cooktown very pleasant. We have
plenty of sunshine and the weather is always warm and never too hot
or humid due to our location next to the ocean. The town and
the park especially is shadowed by Mt. Cook and the surrounding
hills which take the edge off the prevailing south easterly winds so
your visit will be a peaceful experience camping with us.
We do
experience a big increase in rainfall during the wet season months but
this is normally night time and short heavy daily showers.
It never really consistently rains all day long even in the wettest
months. Interruptions to your plans are not common occurrence. The
advantage of visiting this time of the year is all the parks are at
their best and the streams and their waterfalls at the most spectacular.
The best part is you also get the amazing places to yourself most
days.
